Window Tinting & NSW Tint Law

NSW has strict tint laws based on VLT (Visible Light Transmission) — the percentage of light a window lets through. A lower VLT means a darker tint. We only ever install NSW-legal film, so you're protected from fines, defect notices and voided insurance. The legal limits are:

  • Front windscreen: no tint — a clear UV-blocking strip across the top is permitted.
  • Front side windows: 35% VLT minimum.
  • Rear side windows: 20% VLT minimum.
  • Rear windscreen: 20% VLT minimum.
  • Limits can vary slightly by state and vehicle type — we confirm the right spec for your car before we start.

How long does the tinting take?
A standard sedan typically takes 2–3 hours. SUVs and larger vehicles can take 3–4 hours. We'll give you an accurate timeline when we quote your specific car.
Can I roll my windows down straight after?
No — please leave the windows up for at least 48 hours while the film cures. You may see some haziness or water bubbles during this period. This is completely normal and disappears as the adhesive fully bonds.
What's the difference between carbon and ceramic film?
Carbon is a solid all-rounder — good heat rejection, a deep black look, and it won't fade. Ceramic adds significantly more heat and IR (infrared) rejection, which makes a real difference in Sydney summers. Nano-Ceramic IR is the top tier with the best performance available.
Is the tint NSW-legal?
Always. We only install film that meets NSW VLT limits — 35% minimum on front side windows and 20% on rear windows. Illegal tint risks fines, defect notices and can void your insurance, so we never cut corners on this.
Will tinting affect my car's resale value?
Professional, NSW-legal tinting with a lifetime warranty typically adds value or is neutral. Cheap, illegal or poorly-installed tint that bubbles or peels hurts resale and can be a deal-breaker for buyers.
Is the warranty really lifetime?
Yes — on the film itself, against bubbling, peeling, fading and delamination. The warranty stays with the car for as long as you own it. If a film fails for these reasons, we replace it free of charge.
