Encue Labs — Field Notes
We formulate our own coatings, so you might expect an automatic yes. But the honest answer is: it depends on the car, how it lives, and what you expect the coating to do. Here is the answer we give customers face to face.
Daily drivers. Counter-intuitively, the cars that benefit most are the ones that work hardest. Sydney sun, bird droppings, tree sap, industrial fallout and road grime attack unprotected clear coat every day. A quality ceramic coating adds a hard, chemically resistant layer that takes that abuse instead of your paint.
Anyone who washes their own car. The hydrophobic effect is not a party trick — water, dirt and grime release from a coated surface with far less effort, which means faster washes and less wash-induced swirling over the years.
Cars you plan to keep — or sell well. Presentation sells cars. A coated, well-kept finish photographs better, inspects better, and holds its value better.
Rock chips. No ceramic coating prevents stone chips — that is the job of paint protection film. We have written honestly about where ceramic ends and PPF begins. Anyone who tells you a coating stops chips is selling, not advising.
Neglect-proofing. A coating dramatically reduces maintenance — it does not eliminate it. A coated car still needs proper washing. It just rewards that washing far more.
A coating locks in whatever is underneath it. That is why every Encue coating package includes decontamination and the appropriate level of machine correction before anything is applied — sealing in a flawless finish, not the swirl marks. It is also why the cheapest coating quote is rarely the same product, or the same result.
Our professional packages start from $1,000, applied at your home or workplace, with a written warranty and a free follow-up inspection. Confident DIYers can also buy the exact coatings we use — Quartz, Diamond and Obsidian, from $180 — through the Encue Labs shop. Same formulas, straight from the people who make them.
If you want your car easier to keep clean, protected from Sydney’s conditions, and looking properly cared for in three years’ time — yes, it is worth it, provided it is prepared and applied properly. If you are chasing chip protection or a maintenance-free car, spend your money elsewhere. That is the same answer we give in person.
